FCVC alumni bring volleyball to Paraguay

Once they graduate from FCVC, many of our athletes travel far and wide to continue their volleyball experiences.  Two of our alumni, Danielle Grasman (2014) and Chelsea Bott (2014) recently traveled to Paraguay to bring volleyball - and some FCVC clothing! - to the locals.  Below is a write-up from Danielle about their experiences:

This mission's trip was with a group called Athletes in Action and was a volleyball-specific trip, which gave us the opportunity to put on a couple coaching clinics. We had many coaches participate and learn more about the sport of volleyball. We also had many opportunities to play with children in a very poor area. Soccer is a huge sport in Paraguay, so it was fun to teach them the fundamentals of volleyball. The kids were overjoyed to receive some FCVC t-shirts. In fact, as soon as we would give them the shirts, they would take off running to bring them home to show their families! They were very appreciative of the gesture and it was amazing to see how happy they were.  Sometimes we take for granted that we get "another" FCVC shirt, but we can tell you the shirts meant the world to these kids.

While there we also participated in building a Nutrition Station where kids could go to receive a meal. Unfortunately we weren't able to finish the station so the church community that we were working with will have to finish it. This trip was an amazing experience and it really helped to open my eyes to how truly blessed we really are here in Canada.

If it wasn't for Forest City Volleyball we would never have had this opportunity. Because of all the effort that everyone involved at FCVC does we were able to graduate and be recognized at a university level. It was at university that we became involved with Athletes in Action and thus, brought us to go on this trip. We want to thank everyone at Forest City Volleyball Club for all the work that they do.  The work and time you put into the FCVC program reaches beyond our city.  You provide us with the foundation to bring your knowledge and willingness to help others around the world!
